Matinee Heroes is a podcast dedicated to exploring hero cinema - from adventurers, heroes, and superheroes; from Jedi to buddy cops; from the Wild West, to the distant past, to futures both hopeful and dystopian, from ancient lands to the deepest reaches of outer space. In a time when we need heroes more than ever, Alan and Craig will try to understand just what makes our cinematic heroes tick, and how we can use that heroism in our everyday life.

HARRISON ELLENSHAW

Harrison is an amazing matte artist and is best known for his work on TRON (1982), Superman IV: The Quest for Peace (1987), Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope (1977), and Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back. Ellenshaw eventually became the head of Disney’s effects studio, Buena Vista Visual Effect, and worked as its executive producer in Escape from L.A. (1996, John Carpenter)

MIKE QUINN & DAVID BARCLAY

This is Q&A session with the puppetry and voice-over artists Mike Quinn and David Barclay who've worked on classics such as THE DARK CRYSTAL, LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK and RETURN OF THE JEDI. Both we're Frank Oz's main go to puppeteers for Yoda, Mike in JEDI and David during EMPIRE which means there was a brief cameo by a green Jedi Master!

After Chris Nielsen dies in a car accident, he is guided through the afterlife by his spirit guide, Albert.  His new world is beautiful and can be whatever Chris imagines. A ticking-time-bomb insomniac and a slippery soap salesman channel primal male aggression into a shocking new form of therapy.
